Breathing is something so important in our everyday life, yet it is so automatic we seldom stop to think about or even pay attention to while we are doing it.
If you really pay attention to how you breath, or how sometimes you even stop breathing when you are concentrating, upset or even excited, you can really learn so very much about yourself!
With just one breath, you have the power of changing and controlling so many things in your life! Kind of crazy when you think about it … but it is true!
You can control so many of your reactions by simply breathing! And the way you react (or don’t react for that matter) can make a big difference in the way you live your life!
However, most adults and many children forget how to breathe properly. Somewhere along the line, we stop breathing diaphragmatically and begin breathing in a more shallow and/or irregular way by expanding the chest.
This is why breathing exercises and games are such an important part of our yoga classes. We want children to be conscious of the way they breath, in order to know when they are doing it properly and to be able to receive all the wonderful and very important benefits of proper breathing, such as improved blood flow, strengthen lungs, diaphragm, immune system and most importantly deal with stress and emotions in a healthy way!
Breathing exercises and games can be as simple as making paper balls and blowing them from child to child to pom-pom, feather or scarf toss and blowing games! Let your imagination flow, along with your breathe and you will see how much fun you can have while you and your kids receive the great benefits of deep diaphragmatic “belly” breathing!!!!
